Educational extension actions: fighting cancer

The Clinical Analysis Graduate Program (PPGAC), with the objective of contributing to the reduction of the incidence of stomach and rectal colon cancer in the North, develops a research project to develop and disseminate the incidence profiles of these two pathologies through the analysis of medical records registered at Hospital Ophir Loyola. Cancer is a serious public health problem, representing about 12% of all causes of death in the world, with stomach and rectal colon cancer extremely associated with bad habits acquired and developed throughout life. In this sense, the Program, based on the analysis of the incidences, will seek to develop educational extension actions, of a playful nature, for the clarification of the population, aiming, above all, for the children and youth public.

Agreements with private laboratories

PPGAC has an agreement with clinical analysis laboratories in the private network of the municipality of Belém, which grant a Master's scholarship to the student and infrastructure for the development of their master's work and experience in the professional practice of clinical analysis. The graduates have a great prospect of a professional contract in these partner laboratories, which will impact the employment of the graduate and consequently improve the quality of the service provided by the laboratories.
